How to use Paton plasma cutters

Plasma cutters by Paton are widely used in professional and semi-professional metal cutting work. They are suitable for processing cast parts, shaped cutting of metal sheets, and other metal cutting procedures.

How the plasma cutter works

The work tool of a plasma cutter is a plasmatron. This is a torch that produces a high-energy plasma jet from a gas stream, passed through a pilot electric arc. Plasmatron forms it into a plasma “blade” to create a directed electroconductive channel between the plasmatron electrode and the cutting workpiece.

When the plasma 'blade' touches the workpiece, a powerful work arc is struck between the plasmtron electrode and the workpiece. It is confined within the plasma channel from the electrode to the workpiece and is directed by a jet from the plasmatron, thanks to its nozzle and gas-path design.

The energy of a powerful plasma work arc quickly melts, almost evaporates the metal in a local area, preventing overheating and deformation of the entire cutting workpiece. And the concentrated gas jet from the plasmatron effectively blows away the melt, leaving a fairly clean seam with cooled edges.
