For workshop use, consider not only the welding type, but also current reserve, duty cycle, mains voltage, and mobility. If the machine needs to be moved frequently, compactness and weight may be more important than maximum power.

Construction and production require higher productivity reserves. Metal thickness, electrode or wire diameter, operating duration, and joint quality requirements should all be considered. The more intensive the load, the more important reliable cooling and welding arc stability become.
