Current sensor for FES/FEC

This is a current clamp / start-stop shunt used in welding fume extraction systems (FES / FEC) from Abicor Binzel.

Its main function is to automatically start and stop the extraction system, depending on whether the welding process is in progress (i.e. whether the current is flowing).

Characteristics and operating principle:

When the clamp detects a current of more than 20 A, it changes the output signal (voltage) - this is considered to be the “switching on” of the extractor.

The output signal can have a voltage of 5 V ... 24 V (depending on the power supply).

The sensor is powered via a 4-pin connector for this model.

Connection: the sensor is put on the cable of the “mass” (grounding) wire or other suitable wire - the shunt itself “clamps” the cable without interrupting it.

For use with other systems (not only Binzel) - an external pull-up resistor (between output and power) may be required, according to the instructions
