A distance spring is required to keep the plasma torch at a certain distance from the cutting surface. If the plasma torch is equipped with a non-contact ignition system, it is highly undesirable for the nozzle to touch the metal being cut during cutting, as this can lead to nozzle failure and the need for subsequent replacement. To avoid such situations, various distance attachments, such as a roller or distance spring, are mounted on the plasma torch head over the protective cap.
